The NAACP is a membership-driven organization. Centered on Black leadership and civil rights, the NAACP effects real change in the lives of Black community members through the hard work, inspiration, creativity, skills, and perseverance of its members.

The NAACP's mission is to ensure the political, educational, equality of minority group citizens of States and eliminate race prejudice. The NAACP works to remove all barriers of racial discrimination through democratic processes.

From its very beginning, over 100 years ago, the NAACP has had a commitment to a multi-racial membership, and the Portland branch of the NAACP has carried this legacy forward with Black leadership and vision.
